Golden Cross Parade is often described as being in Ashingdon, but administratively it is actually in Hawkwell Parish, on Ashingdon Road, Essex, SS4 1UB. Ashingdon Parish Council itself refers to the Golden Cross Pharmacy as being in nearby Hawkwell Parish.
Golden Cross Parade is recognised by Rochford District Council as one of the district’s local shopping parades, rather than simply a collection of unrelated shops. A council retail study specifically lists “Golden Cross Parade, Ashingdon Road” among the local centres/parades.

The council describes it as providing local services including a supermarket, and the neighbouring Hedingham Place forms part of the same little commercial cluster.

The parade contains 17 residential addresses, with most being mid-century flats. Current property data describes them as predominantly mid-century properties dating roughly from 1936–1979. The parade was operating as a commercial centre at least by the late 1980s, and probably considerably earlier.
